it's bread week and with a shortage ofyeast and flour some bakers are having
to resort to recipes that never usedbefore
so using a bread recipe you have tocreate an animal yes it could be any
animal you want to it can be any breadrecipe that you want to think about what
kind of animal would you want to makeusing bread and you've got seven hours
to do that that's a great idea whatanimal how about a rabbit's good let's
go bake so this is an easy baking recipefor bread with no yeast after you've
done that you're putting your sugarthis is cane sugar then put in some
this is baking powder and salt andlittle by little almost melted butter
yeah so once you've done that you'll addsome little by little, milk. Benjamin has decided
to use a yeast-less recipe to create hisbunnies which will be accompanied by the
traditional English supplements jam andbutter
inspired by the giant snailsDevon sees in her garden she's having
to use croissant dough due to the lackof both flour and yeast she's planning on
dying part of the dough to make thesnails look like the ones roaming
outside whilst baking Eyob has beenreflecting on the week teachers who are
working a big deal in school andteachers days coming up each
appreciation day those Mother's DayValentine's Day anyway to make my bread
and after a failed attempt which it wastoo gooey made this we first made the
yeast which turned bubbling and we putin low less flour than the recipe said
but it's still working. In true NAISNYstyle Eyob is showing resilience with his
second attempt at making Teddy usingraisins for eyes and peanuts for buttons
oh this will make a really good animalwhen we put it in the I am going to make
the first I'm gonna make deserts I'mgonna make a camel a snake and a
scorpion the next one I'm gonna make isthe ocean I'm gonna make a starfish a
crab and a dolphininspired by science lessons Blake is
going to create two different habitatswith a collection of the animals that
live there
with two key components in bread firstone's lieutenant second is yeast yeast
is actually a fungi that takes sugars inglucose and turns them into ethanol and
it's a co2 it's at co2 the two whichmakes it light and airy if the co2 is
entrapped and they bread it's pointlessso to do that I don't emit the bubbles
and Sukie to bread airy we have to usegluten now it's the gluten which gives
it this elastic properties so to bakegluten okay you get flowering you add
water and what that does is it combinesthe two proteins and it makes it into
gluten I know I can see here we've gotsome flour got some been mixed with some
water and got this dome so now whathopefully has happened is we've now
created some of the gluten just madethat elastic property just don't I'm
gonna do is gonna get rid of somestarches so we're just left with the
gluten passing water for him just getrid of those starches that surround the
gluten what happens
you can see what's on here this is whatit will start left over not the gluten
depending what type of flour you usebread flour bread flour uses a lot of
greeting this Australian traps many ofthose see it as possible if you use cake
flour starch reason for you
stuff that's left behindand he's so he encourages the beautiful
so that's where you actually had salt ifyou want to make it brand you don't if
you make this thing like a biscuit youdon't one is gluten okay so that's why
in a biscuit you'd use things likebutter or fats because they cover okay
with the proteins and stop them formingthe gluten and kinda making this kind of
elastic he okay so I'm putting the twocups of wait did I put it on a red
flower in there and got it so I filledit up to one cup cuz I filled the other
cup from two and it's supposed to bethree cups today I'm gonna put this one
cup into the ball having got themeasures correct Beltran is now
combining the ingredients to create thedough for his porcupine using bread
sticks for spikes raves we use bothtechnique and ingredients to try and
pull off her alligator hi my name isBennett and today I'm going to use a
basic pizza dough like this to mea bear
using a pizza dough recipe Bennett hopesto recreate a classic teddy bear shape
Fatah's will now need to let their don'tprove and rise as the gluten traps to
see you too okay so this here is Teddyhe's a teddy bear that's why I named it
teddyso the reasons are his eyes and now bid
it out creative but still what are yougonna work with dad's nose these are his
buttonsthese are his arms and legs every bear
needs us can't wait to see him when he'sout of the oven all right how do you
feel about it
you ready to put in the oven Rabbids isnow a new oven and now I have time to
settle down now in their final shapesmakers were let their dough bake and I
hope it doesn't change the structure toomuch
as you can see these are my breadbunnies I am going to enjoy them
I'm going to enjoy them with it withBush hair and jump
I made the desert and the oceanI made the camel with my hand here my
fish
I it took a while and it got so messy inthe kitchen it's now that the judges to
decide who will be this week's starBaker welcome to another episode of the
great neighs knee Baker's this week wasa lot harder for all the contestants
myself included we are back to discussthe entries and determine the winner
myselfCatharine Barry Claire and mr. Paul
Hollywood Reardon over there ready tojudge and discuss these entries over to
new mr. Reardon yeah this this week wasvery tough and challenging mainly also
for the reason that's due to thequarantine and the lockdown doesn't seem
to be that much yeast in the stores andeven flour was sometimes hard and scarce
to come by so some I nursed some Baker'shave had to be quite clear in how the
thinner this week yeah I myself went byyeast and end up with nutritional yeast
which I then found that was useless formaking bread because it's not active and
therefore that was waste of $6 and I hadto make a useless bread which wasn't as
easy as it sounded let's start with yobsteady oh I love I really love it I love
the shape I love the videos that he sentin as well he was very articulate
explaining what he was doing and how hedone it and also about the fact that
he's used of ingredients to kind of helpcreate his teddy so he's got their
peanuts for his buttons he's got theraisins I think for his eyes I know he's
come out great it looks quite good Ithink the it kind of molded a little bit
in the oven didn't it but before they'remuch more teddy shaped than the cooked
voted but itlook nice it looks it looks like it
would have a nice sponge to it nice softbread yeah let's say the bake it looks
pretty good I mean it's obviously quitehard to see vertically but you know he
said it's good and you know tasty I sawme yes a you know I have to trust him on
that yeah I like I do I agree I like thebuttons and the eyes and I think that
there was a lot of effort that went intothe shaping and production of his
because he's not easy shaping an animalout for it yeah especially what you've
been given it kind of starts to movearound a bit you've really got to kind
of have that in mind from the outset Ithink that's probably where he needs to
focusmaybe next time because to improve it
you know think about I was gonna changein the oven I think about the shaping a
bit more it could be a little bit moreBrown I like I do like a homemade loaves
alright let's move on to roses it saysElizabeth I see an alligator in this
look at the color this low as he doesthat cross that I lived or I can imagine
that but a lovely crunchy texture to theoutside and I think it looks quite soft
on the insidea lot of think how did she do the teeth
in the eyes they're fantastic yes youused the peanuts for the teeth now what
I really like here this is if you do ahead shot or things like that it's quite
a bit to me because if you use scissorsand like snip it and you get this kind
of spike effect and it works so wellthere and it kind of really stands out
and makes this really look like somekind of reptile some kind of very very
then it does look brilliantly and itlooks like a lovely baked loaf as well I
could love to just try some other breadit just looks like you see you know a TV
commercial kind of you know that's got agolden kind of crust this is for me in
my head back of my head I'm thinkingpotential for star Baker yeah it's a
very well crafted loaf and next we'vegot bell x porcupine I love this design
I love that they've been very creativewith the pretzel sticks to make the
porcupine I wonder if that was thechoice animal or if that was a way to
make it looks I mean I think the insidethat bread looks definitely tasty I like
that kind of brown edge to it but I loveit I love the idea of a porcupine and I
think there's been a lot of effort andcreativity put into this do you think
you know he does a little case rhythmvery much so maybe that was a yeast as
baked mm-hmm but you know havingbreadsticks in a bread you know I've got
you've got to be some credit there youknow it's quite visually it's very
stunning and kind of how to stick out inyour head say again like really very
inventive okay let's go on to DevinDevin okay so it's a bit about Devin
they didn't even have any flour or yeastso they had to use kind of a kind of
pre-made Crescent dough presserso she fought across them and so she's
she's died part of it green to kind ofhelp so she had these a while great love
about stories well she had somebody'sjoints she's in Singapore a minute they
had these joints nails in the backgarden oh all right by her neighborhood
yeah exactly necessarily that's a leaffrom about garden as well I think it's a
really inventive taste and I like howthey've kept the integrity of the bread
by putting on some greaseproof paper soyou can still eat it she wouldn't last
week star Baker I do love it I love thecolor mix and I love it and my opinion
it could be bigger if it's the size ofthe leaf I don't know if the leaves in
Singapore a bigger but that less pointsI mean that's not enough bread for me I
love my carbs oh no that's just a giantleaf
or I'd like several snails they make allright so let's look like marks like this
like delicious love oh oh if we'rejudging this just based upon how it
looks but it like again marks like thatlooks fantastic scrape
whatever who is worse the problem he didthe his on the Saturday before we had
you got the challenge so you know he'sjust a bit too early there but zucchini
with the bait could wait until we knewwhat the change was before he actually
made something do love it it looks likebanana bread is it do we know what it's
it isn't banana bread that's making mymouth water
it looks delicious mark lots of pointsfor how it looks and it does look like
it's a good banana bread baked butunfortunately it quick fools if we're
judging everyone on the same criteriayeah but I just had to show that because
you know it is a very good bake and youknow he should be a proud of late made
yet went till they sucked fullinstructions next time art um okay
Benjamins Bernie's yeah very pretty Ilove the picture with the jam and the
butter I think they look absolutelydelicious I love the whiskers that he's
put on them oh honey miss dogs use theiruseless recipe which I think explains
why it looks may be quite a bit flatyeah it's very much like the one the
bread that I was attempting with theether spread because it's not meant to
Brown as much it doesn't fret like it'sjust flour and water basically with
baking soda it doesn't it doesn't Brownwell that that's what my recipe said
they didn't brown as much you can also Ithink you think wake up then yeah it has
done the right job and although itdoesn't look as appetizing that sort of
bread does it because it hasn't got anice brown like crusty edge but the nose
it's like crusty I think they're quitethey're small so maybe that also it
depends how long you baked it forbecause what I found is that nice and
spread goes hard quite quickly and youhave to watch it to make sure it's not
too hard but it looks they look they'represented very well yes right then it's
bare oh so cute the eyebrows casheweyebrows and smile mate
the nut should have been put in a bitlater they look yes we're going to say
like they look a bit overbaked bit butyou know there is cute various twists
supposed to be it's supposed to be likea teddy bear
it looks like a teddy bear I like theadditions of the pieces to make parts of
the bear if the braid looks a littleundercooked and the luck knots look a
little overcooked so we had this issuelast time we've been it don't we with
the cheese straws do you remember likehe had kind of left a bit and abates I
think bending is - maybe you work onvery very beautiful teddy bear it's very
cute like again he's doing a tremendousjob and has just in second last time he
did all those designs for the cheese andthe cheese choice it wasn't just one he
just kept gave us lows at differenttimes and again I don't know that he's
actually been like think about ways beendoing science and trying linking
habitats and thinking about the animalwas doing a different habitat say though
you know that I'm kind of like thosefingers get me he's definitely playing
to his audience like he's doing a kindof like a fun kind of more flatter bread
now don't notice because he hasn't hadeased but it does look like there just
look like an eye kind of useless kind offlatbread
rather than something that's writtenvery doughy animals really creates
shapes I love the presentation this isso creative
well interests about is if he can mayberoam doing lots of things maybe just use
the creativity just one or two thingsyeah because I'd love to see kind of
like maybe that creativity going to likeextra details and maybe some of those
animals but I think he's just so crazy alittle time and he does a really good
job like I love this I love the crab butI love the turtles that ocean when I
think is my favorite yeah yeah like thelittle cactus in the presentation for
the other yeah so who would be your starBaker out of the students well I have to
say the one that made me want to eat itthe most and the most
beautiful presented animal I think isroses lizard alligator I think that
Freitas looks absolutely delicious it'sgot everything you want into bread it's
like got a nice - crispy outside it'sgonna be nice and soft and fresh on the
inside and it's definitely hit thecriteria for an animal I think that that
would be my favorite the graduation rateis very very good and with all the thing
what you can create this next weekthat's your push that was your first
entry I'm very excited to see theprogression you're gonna hurt definitely
I do really love that yeah porcupineI've being a blake's and you know
they're doing some pretty good ones dayout and even my Devon's like snail I
sleep impressive that yeahlet's discuss the adults bake so we've
got mr. catches Bernie's here earningbunnies yeah they're slightly a little
bit tangles I love this I love the twistof the dough though the one on the Left
the tweezers that supposed to be likethe back of a bunny Oh like a bit set up
oh I love it I think that's a reallylike elegant way to create a bunny out
of a twist I think that's beautiful yeahI know it is really elegant I love that
I just feel you've ones have been inthere's still a bit too long who yeah
yeah I mean the Sun has only just comeout so everybody is likely to get some
but when it first comes out okay so thisis the inside of one nurse oh look yeah
it's quite that kind of nice bit ofholes there take thing it's been a few
days since we made them so it's been drynow I could taste the dirt and I thought
that great effort oh yeah you know I dolike the twisty one I think that's the
twisty one really brings up the ears Ithink actually no they press s really
quite nice okay what'd you get for theburnt taste is all good
okay so next one is my Tiger I knowdid you have different kind of bread did
you make this by different right yeah sowell I'll use the same President Roh
used it the same bread recipe but likein part of it I put like cocoa powder
and the pot I put like paprika becausewhat I was trying to do is trying get
some stripes and he didn't quite work nomaybe not as clearly as you wanted them
toI could not there's one darker leg
there's two kind of orangey legs and twoand of paler legs and then you've kind
of molded the bread once it was cookedto do the shoulder in the head hey yeah
I did afterwards it I mean it kind ofquite like how I wanted you know being
cool Hollywood's red and I kind of letmyself down in the bread challenge
probably was crazy tonight I do like thelittle pine I think it looks more like a
Rams had been a tiger's head yeah itwould kind of could be like a light yeah
lion it kind of Miss India van he justlost his check as it clearly would do
yeah acres or we would have to thinkabout because knowing what happens when
you put things in the oven they dochange shape and then we've got your
turtle which I absolutely loveI think it's really cute I think it's
you know the presentation is fantasticand see is it turtle you've had to use a
useless recipe which is kind of a wholenever think list here it tasted horrible
no you think that that it would startbaking until the year well I have to be
honest with that because I think thecheese straws they were delicious I
ain't nearly all of them very veryquickly the bread because I wanted it to
be a bit browned because I do like anice crispy life I could too long but
because it was Lisa's brain it's notmeant to be browned so it was just a bit
dry by the time way I baked it too muchto get that color and it was useless
British flour and water basically whichis amazingly I make bread but the middle
of it was was was better but the thehands and the head were just very
rock-hard because I'd cook them to knowyou know presentation I think really has
kind of made up maybe for that bread andsome to start baking it is that you just
three of us I think your type I like thecreativity but I didn't turn out as you
like I think you can definitely see it'sa cat shaped animal and they definitely
can see the clear stripes and you baitthat in a nice way it's got a nice
crispy outside it's not overcooked it'snot undercooked
did you taste it yeah obvious patterntoday that's really good oh I I think
you could be star Baker this week thankyou guys
appreciate it thank you mom on Sundayfrom 12 until 8 you will have your next
challenge which will be a layer cakechallenge this means you have to have at
least two different layers with somekind of filling in between what type of
cake what type of filling gets down toyou and wait on Sunday until for your
challenge remember there's an MITelement to it too so don't just bake
your bread like Marc took this week andnot include the MIT jaaye so wait till
Sunday to find out what that isall right thank you very much miss
Katherine very clear very welcome thanksfor having me again and I can't wait to
see next week's offering thank you guyssee you next week

This week, bakers were challenged to create an animal out of any bread recipe.
